LOOKING FOR THE CURE?
Although there is no current cure that has been proven to completely eliminate all symptoms of Senioritis 100% of the time, there are various treatments and options that are out there than can help you! Two proven methods that have been shown to be successful in alleviating symptoms are:
1.) Cognitive: Talk to a person whom you trust, or if it is a friend who is afflicted, have a one on one with the person or arrange for them to talk with someone else they love and trust. When talking with this friend, be sure to slowly alert them to their self-destructive way of thinking they have adopted. The main purpose, however, of this "talk therapy" is to discuss and bring back to focus future goals, positive plans, and past sources of motivation. Sometimes, people may just need to be reminded of and nudged back onto the right road again. Doing this in a calm, soothing environment with the person's loved ones and role models has been shown to be very effective.
2.) Alternative: This method is called the "Grade Shock Therapy". Although it is a more brute method, it is just as effective and a bit quicker. Many times, people with Senioritis are not aware of the long lasting/long term negative consequences of their actions. In order to bring them back to reality, a sufficient psychological shock is needed. In this method, this shock is provided by presenting the afflicted with the brute reality of their current grades in class. Most of the time, their grades are overwhelmingly lower than they are used to and seeing them is like a slap in the face. This is the similar shock that students face at the end of the year when they discover how much they declined throughout the year, however with this therapy we provide it before it is too late and give the afflicted the chance to correct what they have done and get better. CAUTION: Results may last considerably shorter than other types of therapy and/or may not work at all. Best done early before the more serious symptoms of Senioritis appear, such as complete apathy over anything academic.
